Dude, this album is great! Pretty impressive for a debut IMO. They were just a bunch of kids aping some At the Gates, but not in the way the other core bands at the time did without even knowing who At the Gates were.

Well they did cite At the Gates as an influence, so pretty sure they knew who they were.
Unless I misunderstood your comment. But either way, this is still the good kind of At the Gates influence. I wouldn't even call this core at all tbh, not like it matters but to me this just sounds like some sick mdm.

I'm saying that TBDM were a bunch of metal head kids, but there were/are so many "metal" bands that play those Swedish melodic death metal riffs cause they heard a band like Killswitch play it, and don't know their roots.

Oh ok haha that makes more sense. Can't really disagree there.

Yeah man, I'm at Miasma at the moment and def hearing the Gothenburg in these guys with def an American flair to it. I've also heard they get labelled with metalcore à la All That Remains/Shadows Fall etc. I don't know who started this garbage but man it is a dead wrong statement.

Yeah that's what I've been saying too haha. These guys are so sick but I avoided them for a long time because I associated them with bands I didn't like. Big mistake since I've missed a few opportunities to see them / skipped their sets. Oh well lol
I still think it's mostly just At the Gates hating elitists who label the band that way. Someone said they toured with a lot of those bands too but idk, I see a lot of people who hate ATG and every band they ever influenced and just lump it all as "metalcore" regardless of what the music actually sounds like.

I've never known a genre as heavily debated as metalcore.
Most people don't actually know what metalcore is but I can safely say this band is essentially a melodic death metal band.

This band got lumped in with the scene kids which I never understood but yeah they’ve always been a melodeath band.
|

They got lumped in because they very smartly designed their merch around the scene kid all over front print shirt aesthetic with vibrant neon colors. I know I own at least 5 TBDM shirts I got at Hot Topic back in the late 2000s.

Very true lol. I got one from Hot Topic too like 10 years ago. Still have it.

I've got a Nocturnal shirt that I got when I saw them live a while back.
That was around ten years ago too!

I've got a Nocturnal shirt from the anniversary tour but it's re-colored with, you guessed it, super bright neon stuff. Lol

So begins the quest to fill in the gaps in my TBDM discography.
RIP Trevor. Damn... it's a bad one.
