Matt's vox rule on the first two albums... but then he decided he needed to be as technically proficient with his vox as he is with his guitar playing in spite of simply not having the voice for it

His vox on the first two albums where shit, especially the screams. His vocals started getting better on Shogun. With the screams he adopted on the "Sin and The Sentence", we can clearly hear him enunciate the words through them and I really dig that style.

From my opinion, this album is right there at the top, on par with Shogun. I was never a huge fan of the screams and growls, so the more melodic approach of this album is much, much closer to my taste.
My top picks: The Revanchist, Beyond Oblivion, Beauty in the Sorrow, Other Worlds, Betrayer
Worst tracks: The Wretchedness Inside, Thrown into the Fire, Endless Nights

As a side note, it's funny (and sad at the same time) how frustrated some people here can be...
I perfectly understand that many don't like this album, that's ok, but one thing is not liking an album and giving it a 1.0 rating and another thing is throwing shit at a band in the comments section for 4-5 pages.
Also, if the average rating is this high with even your 1.0 / 1.5 votes, it means the album made a better impression to the majority. Accept that and move on..

You couldn't on Ember and Ascendancy? I know I could, not that the lyrics really matter in Trivium's music.
I just liked the contrast between the super techy and overblown instrumentation and the very energetic yet amateur vocals on those albums

Sure it still sounded great especially on Ascendancy, but you can't deny his vocals are technically better then they ever have been. That you like them less now then on the first two is just a matter of preference.

Yeah and a lot of power metal vocalists are "technically" good but "in reality" sound like trash.

Album Rating: 4.5

Just listened to Betrayer and it's eclecticism gone dreadfully wrong. Technically ok but sounds like a fucking style sampler. Stick to metal for fuck's sake. Drummer 's a machine, feeling sorry for him tbh

anyway yeah this one of the worst albums of the year
