'january 10th, 2014' is such a great track, but I agree Harmlessness was overlong and meandering. Guess I'll check this out at some point, but I'm not gagging for it.
Great review btw!

nice review homie, gonna have to spin this a few times because it all sounded the same to me (first song off Harmlessness is the best thing they've done imo)

Love the 3 last tracks, but the rest still hasn't kicked in.
Will read the review later!

I really like this album personally, my highlight is Hilltopper.

Faker is easily my favorite. I don't like bringing politics to sputnik typically but it seems like a pretty obvious verbal assault of our sitting pres. That's not why I like it, though, I just can't get enough of the emotion and progression to the emphatic vocals in the second half.
Other peaks include Marine Tigers and Infinite Steve; all these moments are glorious but the majority of the album feels lazily cut and pasted to me. I'm thinking about a 3.5 or so which is probably overrating it considering I am indifferent about over 50% of the tracks, but whatever.

It's important to consider that a lot of the bitter lyrics are also aimed at their ex-member Nicole. There's ambiguity between the political and the personal in that it isn't always clear if the diss is towards her or the President. "I never dreamed you wouldn’t keep your word" seems clear-cut though.

true, I was wondering about that line and I don't follow the band closely so I had no idea about their falling out

"I never dreamed you wouldn’t keep your word"
If that was aimed at any politician ever, they are dumb
|
| |
Yeah, so we can infer it's towards their ex band member

Pitchfork actually wrote a really good review of this and it touched on the politics/Nicole thing. I had no idea about that falling out. Still not sure what exactly happened

How does this compare to "Whenever, If Ever"? Judging by the review and comments, this doesn't sound too promising.

Shaq it has great peaks but isn't nearly as consistent as their other two. It's more of a take what you like, leave the rest behind album for me.

anyone expecting anything close to whenever if ever from these gfuys again is either deluded or hasn't been listening to them in the last five years
|

also this is just as consistently good as their others, don't let vocal morons put you off
