"I'm glad they changed up the formula of interspersing two monster avant-garde rock pieces with drone sections, cause that would've gotten formulaic if it happened in the third album in a row."
I couldn't agree more.

This is actually quite good in places, sorry Lucid, I might be breaking ranks a bit. Bumped to a 3.5.

It's probably the most straightforward and catchy stuff they've ever done.
Make of that what you will.

Would it be a crime to listen to this having only heard F#A#?
|
| |
yes. listen to their good albums first
|
| |
Not even just to get this out of the way? Maybe I'd even appreciate it more not having heard all their classic material?

This isn't as good as their classic material - this is kinda 'mere mortal' post rock that's pretty catchy

id be interested to see how that works out boney. go backwards through their discog, starting here. might be a good journey.

I've been scared off from the rest of their stuff due to the lengths (I love F# though)... Now that I've been listening to that Lift to Expeirence album though I have no excuse.

Don't know that I'd want to do that minty, I just kind of want to hear this since it's a new release but I'm too lazy to listen to the rest of their stuff before it.

i find this quite engaging and that's coming from someone who thinks 95% of post rock is boring wanky shite. still a far cry from f#a# though obviously

Skinny Fists will always be their best, followed by Slow Riot
|
| |
I think Slow Riot can be seen as some sort of extention of F#A#, so I'd say that the combination of these two is their best work. Skinny Fists is also pretty awesome, but it's just a bit too much on the meandering side imo (and also some of the parts of the songs don't go so well together imo)
