This has improved with every listen. I've no interest in comparing to earlier Godspeed albums, because they are tinged with massive amounts of nostalgia, but this stands on its own as a fine piece of music. Favourite track - Anthems for no state.

Yeah it's a grower. There's a lot going on than first meets the ear. Also I love Yanqui but most here seem to hate it. It's an incredible album. I don't get how people can listen to yanqui UXO and be like ''eh no compelling melodies, boring!''

If you relisten to this album a lot you'll find that there's a lot of thematic connections between all of the songs. It's almost like the bands message on this record is something like .. ''It all goes back to the same place'' because a lot of the songs have these triumphant sounding guitar and string instrument passages that are the same melody. Each song climaxes into that melody. Also the first track in particular requires countless listens due to it's density. I've heard some people say it's just noise and boring but there's a lot of sounds in it. Listen to the strange sounding horn at 4:45 into the first track. It sounds so twisted. I feel like a lot of people have panned this record. I feel like the band made these songs to give struggling people hope because each one is like a battle or something. Especially with the addition of the horns.

An enjoyable, if slightly unmemorable series of musical experiments consisting of bleak, apocalyptic atmospheres with moments of hope.

Statement: The stoic wall crumbles.
The border dissolved.
Individuals together build the bridge of solidarity.
Unison is godliness.

The music:CLANG, TWANG, BANG.

The artwork: washed out stained photo of a WW1 helmet.

The sput rating - 4.2

Fuck off wankers.

Alesana plays instruments, fucking GYBE fucking goes in the kitchen, and drops pans on the floor, open doors and slam them, water the fucking flowers and watch a train go by, then calls it music., , , ,
