Yeah, whilst not a hot take, I do find that the expectation can hinder / cripple my enjoyment of a record. That Rolo Tosmassi record was never as heavy or elegant as the hype suggested to me, nor was that Daughters record as harrowing as I'd hoped. Also I find it much easier to build a personal connection with some underground record no one's heard of.



That being said, I adore this and got swept up in the hype train.

I'll Still Destroy You is probably top 5 The National tracks, when all is said and done. So so great.

i'll still destroy you, nobody else will be there, carin, and gym are the only songs i care to revisit. the rest is so bloody boring. title track is one of their worst.

Destroy You, Carin and Gym are the best here so I at least agree with you there

I absolutely love the T/T tho, tied for my 2ND favorite closer of theirs
