I'm a little worried about what initial reviews (and singles) indicate about the album: the production will be a lot less intimate. Whilst I think that's a logical step for Julien, considering Sprained Ankle wasn't intended for a wide audience, and her live shows (and various interviews and songs) have been cultivating a more communal atmosphere, the production's going to have to be wonderful for me to be on board. I think it's obvious the songs themselves will be great (half of the album is available in some form), but that the album will likely lack the intimacy of Sprained Ankle means something special will have to take its place outside of the songwriting on its own.

Honestly an embellished production sounds like it would be an improvement for me.

Yeah, I imagine it'll be received better than this was, at least initially. Hope you enjoy it more. (: One more day.

I like the intimate side of Sprained Ankle but I am excited to hear her musical growth on the next.

The first listen was underwhelming for me. Knee jerk reaction, it's both an identity crisis and yet too predictable; you start to know the exact moment she's going to start belting it out, and she either soars or trips and stumbles over formulaic and overstuffed instrumentation. Some absolutely stunning moments, but a bit too same-y.
I will say tho, her lyrics are even better

I understand, mate, hope it grows on you. Interested to know, did you dig the two singles when they came out? That is, assuming you didn't wait for the album itself.

I actually loved the singles, they're definitely 2 of the more impactful songs on the album imo
