Jimi Hendrix is an amazing guitar player. He made some the most creative and phycadelic guitar riffs and solos that I have ever heard. Mitch Mitchell is an awesome drummer. He adds a nice jazzy drum beat with awesome fills that work perfectly with the guitar. Noel Redding is good, and at his best on this album, in my opinion. He keeps a good bass beat and can make some cool sounding bass stuff.
Electric Ladyland is amazing. It's got great guitar, top-notch drumming, and a good bass beat. It has the hits All Along The Watchtower, Crosstown Traffic, and Voodo Child (Slight Return).
Track-by-Track
1. ...And The Gods Made Love: An odd intro. With strange noises in the background with random thumping and then slow-mo voices and just ***in weird noises. Its a good way to open a good album. ?/?
2. Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland): Nothing really too amazing instrumentally here. Jimi singing in a melodic voice. Some guitar fills here and there add a nice feeling of happiness. Then a guitar solo that’s a bit bluesy. The overall song is very soft and melodic. 5/5
3. Crosstown Traffic: This has one of my favorite guitar riffs. The song is energetic. With a perfect beat for the way Jimi sings. During the verse the drums keep everything in time and sounding awesome. The guitar fills are top-notch. The bass keeps a nice beat going. 5/5
4. Voodoo Chile: This is an amazing piece of music. It is 15 minutes long and is basically a jam session. At points you hear the people in the studio clap and for good reason. Every thing is pretty awesome in this song. The drums do a nice fitting triplet thing on the cymbals with some great fills. The bass does a good job of fitting with everything. This song is filled with some amazing guitar fills during the vocal parts of the songs. During this 15 minutes you can get bored but stick it out because this song is truely great. Jimi, Mitch, and Noel do a pretty good job and the only problem is the length. Sometimes i get lost if you know what i mean. I find you don’t really notice the vocals too much here. 5/5
5. Little Miss Strange: A nice catchy acoustic entry then a cool effect on the guitar when the bass and drums come in. Noel takes on the vocals of this song and does a damn fine job. He also does a really good job on the bass. The drums as always are just awesome, and Jimi has a really cool solo not to long from the start. I've got to hand it to Noel; he did a nice job on this song, singing and bassing. Noel's voice is kind of weird. Like I didn’t expect it to be the way it was. It's a good weird, though. 5/5
6. Long Hot Summer Night: A nice guitar entry. Nothing technical but catchy. The drums do a really good job, as usual, with Mitch putting in all of those awesome fills. The bass has nice, solid beat through out the song. The solo is a typical Jimi solo, awesome. The vocals are really great. The lyrics are well written and are nice. 5/5
7. Come On (Let the Good Times Roll): Great instrumentation. It’s full of raw energy. The lyrics are the best thing about this song. Like “I love you baby like a miner loves gold.” The words rhyme perfectly. The beat of the whole song blends very well to form this energetic masterpiece. The solo is a Jimi solo but the bass blew me away. Mitch does his amazing thing on the drums, throughout the song and keeps the beat. 5/5
8. Gypsy Eyes: starts with a simple drum beat then a pretty cool guitar starts. Then Jimi plays what he sings and it sounds awesome. Then the bass comes in to add a really nice sound to the song. At this point it seems like I haven’t really given Noel enough credit. His bass in this song is really good. Mitch’s drums don’t change any, and that’s a good thing. I love the lyrics. They just have something, know what I mean? Jimi’s guitar here is really great and one of my favorites. When the bass comes in though it just sounds awesome. 5/5
9. Burning of the Midnight Lamp: this is a really phycadelic song. The guitar has some weird stuff going on and it sounds awesome. Mitch plays an energetic and less jazzy drum beat here. The bass is nice and adds to the phycadelic guitar riffs. Jimi’s voice fits the air of music like a glove. The solo is a cool shorter solo, but it does its job. 5/5
10. Rainy Day, Dream Away: The most different, experimental song on the album. The vocals make me laugh at the beginning because it sounds like Jimi’s just jokin’ around. The saxophone throughout the song adds a really nice jazz touch. When the piano and guitar mimic it sounds really cool. This song is really jazz like. Mitch does some really nice beats in this song. Noel doesn’t do anything to wonderful here. 5/5
11. 1983…(A Merman I Should Turn To Be): opens with a really awesome guitar. The drums remind me of a march. The bass does some nice stuff that fits well with the guitar. I love the feeling of this song which I can’t really describe. Jimi’s lyrics are pretty cool. The songs almost got a mournful feeling to it at some points. The drums really add to this song. Mitch does a great job. The main idea of this song makes me laugh. 5/5
12. Moon, Turn the Tides… Gently Gently Away: Some weird noises. Sounds like wind or maybe a space ship landing. It reminds me of the hurricane in the wizard of oz. It’s a pretty Weird song, that I can’t rate because it’s just some wind. ?/?
13. Still raining, Still Dreaming: A really nice guitar part. That sounds good with Jimi’s voice. The drums are pretty simple for Mitch. The bass does its thing, keeping the beat with the drums. The guitar is really great. The solo is amazing. 5/5
14. House Burning Down: has an awesome, crying guitar. It’s real bluesy at the intro then turns more rock. The drums keep the beat with some good rolls and some great fills. The bass has a pretty good part. Noel does a good job on this song. Jimi’s vocals are really great on this song. My favorite part is the solo. 5/5
15. All Along the Watchtower: As most of you probably know this is a cover of a Bob Dylan song. They do an amazing job. They completely change it (I think I haven’t heard Bob Dylan’s in a while). The bass isn’t too great but it has some cool fills. The drums are really great in this song. The solo is very echoey then goes into a wah effect thing. 5/5
16. Voodoo Child (Slight Return): My favorite guitar riff is on this song. A cool wah riff. Jimi did an outstanding job on this song. This song is a great closer. The drums do a variation of the simple rock beat. The vocals are great. This song is pure Rock n Roll. The solo is an amazing fastish rock solo. Jimi incorporates the vocals with the instrumentation really well. The bass has some nice fills but I find they can be hard to hear sometimes. This is, as I said above, a great closer. It’s a classic rock n roll song. 5/5
Overall: This album is a definite recommendation for any rock fan or a fan of guitar driven stuff. The vocals range from dreamy just plain rock vocals. The guitar ranges from rock, phycadelic, and blues, sometimes in one song. The bass goes from ok to really great, and the drums are consistent all through the album. By the way sorry if I came off a bit fanboyish.
