Sure...I do that sometimes. My ranking of Medusa accounts for Shrines and Symbolic Virtue as well. I might've bumped it down to 3.5 if I didn't count the latter track but since I had time to sit on it for awhile as well as having the vinyl w/the first 8 tracks only, I'd still rate it a 4 regardless.

Maybe its Australia only, but the standard cd - the non delux version, has only 8 tracks.
The digi pack version has the 2 bonus tracks.
I dont think its insane at all, the official version of the album has 8 tracks ending with Until The Grave.
The other two are bonus tracks that the band didnt feel warranted being on the album. Why god knows. But added them as bonus tracks.
Im only bringing it up as there are two cases of it vert recently (the new Nothing but thieves as well) and in both cases two of the better tracks are the bonus tracks.
Why sell a version of the album without them?
Unless you want them considered not part of the album.
And hence my comments above
They shouldn't expect the plaudits of it being called a great album on the basis of those songs. If they want that, make them official songs of the album.

Sometimes it may not be the band, but the label doing this to give more motivation to the people to buy the special editions.

"Sometimes it may not be the band, but the label doing this to give more motivation to the people to buy the special editions."
Peaceville is a notorious for doing this with the Katatonia stuff. Their newest album had like 4 different versions when it was released (and another tour edition the following year w/a bonus 4 song live disc); neither of which had the same bonus songs included on other versions except for the deluxe book version which had all bonus tracks included in some shape or form.

grew on me a little today. still not quite worthy of that 4.0 tho

It feels slightly unnecessary. Like a weak Gothic/Icon blend but with better drums.

At least they dont sound like metallica anymore. Thats always a bonus.

They did that better on The Plague Within imo.

I agree, but I still love this one too m/

They never sounded like Metallica to me.
I get it, i know what people meant, i could hear it at times, but overall just entirely different sound for me.

The album took me back to their early 90's releases. The songs are better than I expected.

I'm afraid that after many listens I only truly care for about half of the songs, even though none are bad

Pretty subtle, just like the One Second remaster.

What is that video? YouTube is blocked here. I liked the One Second remaster. It cleaned up the muddy sound. This album, on the other hand... not so much liking.

It's "So Much Is Lost" remastered. Host has no review, so we can only talk about it in other album threads, heh.

Is this better than their previous effort ?

The high quality of previous efforts makes this a mediocre PL album.
Definitely worth a listen of course.

This is growing on me. I still think it's PL's take on generic fuzziness but oh well it's still PL doing it. Favorites at the moment are Until the Grave, t/t and The Longest Winter. Fearless Sky is nicely epic but I think its first half could have been shortened without negative consequences
