that p4k article that came out is absolutely fucked. Before it I thought he was human garbage, now I still do but to the enth degree.
For those of you who haven't seen it

yeah he's v unstable and this doesn't surprise me one bit
|
| |
horrible dude yeah
|
| |
man i've been adamant about the "separate the artist from the person" thing but this dude's artist persona is pretty much exactly the same as who he is as a person, which is pretty fucking scary...
if he doesnt get locked up for a long time i'll be upset

probably will get off on bail if he gets charged at all, unfortunately

i cant wish prison upon him -- i think prisons are deeply inhumane -- and as a judge i would take into allowance severe deprivation and unaddressed mental health needs, but there's no denying the heinousness of his crime. as a rule, fwiw, i separate the artist from the output, hence not acknowledging this in the review, but a ex-gf of mine who worked for a Rape Crisis output used to say their motto was: "hate the crime and abuse, but don't hate the person", as a problem with domestic violence and sexual violence is it's usually perpetrated by someone the person cares about, compounded with appalling patriarchal mores and rape mythology. that's an ideology that i try to incorporate into not just my reviews but my life, no matter how odious the person, but i do not and will never condone domestic abuse. i just don't think prison or punitive punishment is an answer when it comes to breaking the cycle.
sorry. thanks.

I think prison is bad for a different reason. It's bad because it doesn't work. People don't learn from the experience and it just causes further damage. I do agree, however, that domestic violence is despicable and would certainly not be opposed to a committer of such a crime getting a good beating (or something of equal value). However, I think that people need to recognize that psychological issues are the root of a lot of extreme crimes and that we need to delve deeper into psychoanalytical research while being more open to reformation. If, for some reason, this is not the case and some garbage cunt just commited an awful crime for absolutely no reason (and they are a continuing problem), exile them. That is all.

you can't really thoroughly research psychoanalysis, it's unempirical. i think you just mean we need to focus more on assessing and treating mental disorder, which i agree with. however, the whole 'hate the crime but not the person' thing is sort of tripping me up. i mean i agree to an extent, but i feel like that perspective can sometimes obviate personal responsibility, like they're just a product of their unfortunate pathology + unfortunate upbringing / environment -- which we are, but i also believe in free will, and that rapists, etc. etc. are not powerless to their worst impulses and derangement... i mean at what point do we pin behavior on the individual? it can easily be obfuscated.

this album was literally an attempt to soften the blow of inevitable shit dug up against a man who's past endeavors involved the already well known abuse of a pregnant girlfriend along with beating a gay man to near death (and then openly bragging and joking about it) because he's just so sad, depressed, suicidal, and unhinged. Oh look at me, im making music outside of the comfort zone of hip hop, I have guitars and RnB beats. I'm opening up my heart and letting all the depressed people of the world know that I connect with them as i tap my multi-thousand dollar studio mic to produce crackling sounds to indicate that this is just so emotionally destructive for me.
this isn't the work of a man who is going through bad shit and needs a hand. this is the the work of a full blown sociopath who shows absolutely no regret for what he's doing. You cant separate the artist from the art in this case, because this album is about XXX and its about XXX specifically trying to manipulate people into giving him excuses for actions that go above and beyond what we know about people like R. Kelly and Chris Brown.

Around 2 a.m. on October 8, XXXTentacion was in the living room of the apartment playing Minecraft
|
| |
Everything I said was without the knowledge of the crimes he did, it was more so an argument along the lines of what Wines said but also opposing it as well. With this new knowledge however i can agree, however, that XXX is a monumental pile of shit.

interested to see the general reaction of his fanbase to all of this

If his fans can still defend him after this they're even stupider than I thought. He's human waste, hope he gets what he deserves.

looks like he'll be enjoying a different kind of xxx... in prison!!!
no obviously he's a dick but that doesn't make resorting to barbarism in any way defensible. i can still think he's a dick and not wish him to suffer unduly at the hands of a system i find unconscionable; justice and fundamental human rights aren't mutually exclusive
