The Evil Has Landed is such a fun tune. Album feels like a 3.5-4 on first listen

Who cares how well written a review if it's hasty and completely off base?

Album is killer.

A real progression for them; loving the hypnotic, minimalist song structures and synths. Writing/vocals are top notch, as per Homme-usual.

maybe it'll grow on me but these sound like sterile lullabies outtakes on first listen

I can't believe I'm saying this about a Queens album, but the Guitar tones on this really aren't doing much for me.

Album will grow on me though, I remember not being impressed with Era and Clockwork at first and they're probably top 3 Queens for me now.

Like Clockwork got me expecting too much maybe, that album is just too fucking good. but still, I've actually enjoyed Villains a lot more than EV or Lullabies on my first listen.

I adore Era Vulgaris and don't really return to Clockwork much (aside from Smooth Sailing), which I gather puts me into a distinct minority..

I completely get that it is and I'd never say a word against it.. era just fits my aesthetic better, makes me happy.. Can't beat that visceral moment..

It's also why this record doesn't sit well with me.. if they just released a 7'' of misfit love and smooth sailing, it would have accomplished everything this album failed to do.. Dance, funk and attitude that is still queens..
