'I have half the albums 4.5-5 and the other half 2-3, I'm a whingey hyper critical bitch with them.'

This sums up my Radiohead ratings too. I'm actually just a massive fan-boy of this & Kid, not Radiohead in general. In Rainbows has grown on me but I wouldn't say it's exceptional.

"To be fair though Row, zak was actually there when the original album was released so his initial impressions of it, hyperbolic as they may sound to you, are arguably the most unbiased"

I don't think that makes his opinion worth more or anything tbh. if anything in some ways he is far more biased because he has the personal nostalgia about it - I mean we all pretty much know zak has blinders on when it comes to anything released in the 90s. surely by your logic, I would have the most unbiased opinion because I'm coming at this outside of the narrative of "this is a classic" that most operate in??? (not saying that's the case just following your line of argument)

"You probably just don't like the genre they're operating with here as much"

nah, this has a handful of my favourite Radiohead songs on it and I have no problem with 90s alt rock, I just don't think they did it particularly well in some cases

I have four 5s, two 4.5s, a 4, a 3.5 (which was only recently dropped down from a 4), and a 2.5.

Was listening to the nice blue vinyl version of this today. It's far from a perfect album - 'Electioneering' and 'Climbing up the Walls' are clunkers IMO. But boy is 'Airbag' a perfect opener.

To answer the question from the first page - Apple Music/Spotify indicates the original album has been remastered, but it wasn't shockingly different to my ears. The original is fine.

I wouldn't really say that Row because (since I'm pretty sure you're not much older than I am) you came at it with the impression of it as a classic and thus it's really really hard to come at it without bias. That you disagree with the general consensus does not in any way make you less biased, at least not by necessity.

And as for nostalgia, zak is not necessarily affected by that more than anyone else; despite have gotten into this around 2011 it holds massive nostalgia for me as it helped me get into music beyond Coldplay.

I'm sorry if I came off as confrontational too, I do respect your opinion even though I disagree and it does t really make all that much sense to me. As I said I just didn't particularly like the tone and premises of the review and while it's well-written I think you could've argued your points about the original album better.

Nostalgia can be balanced by knowledge.

Those most knowledgeable about an era or genre can also be the most critical of quality within that field - and often they're the best informed too.

It can work both ways.

for sure. I just don't think we should hold one opinion up as the bastion of objective goodness just cos he was there. like doof says, works both ways.

There's nothing more dangerous than rec'ing the Doof an alt rock album from the 90's...I'll be holding it up to three hundred other albums I know.

Could be safer throwing some chibi-tech my way, at least it might confuse me into a 5 rating.

Not sure this 'Zak loves everything 90's cos nostalgia' thing works - bet he has more 90's stuff rated below a 2.5 than pretty much anyone

I'm not saying it's the bastion of objective godness, I was just defending it because it sounded like you were dismissing it out of hand, rereading your comment though I see you were more using as an example of the general consensus.

But also when it comes to zak (not that he needs me to defend him), like what Doof's saying even if he tends to inflate a lot of 90s stuff he's not undiscriminating and in his case I take his stamp of approval on a 90s album as a positive thing (even if I don't always agree **cough cough** Grant Lee Buffalo)

As long as a user has Sunhouse 5'd then it can be taken as gospel they know their 90's

"Fair enough lads, just feels like there's no other album like this one that gets praised far beyond what I actually hear when I spin it."

I feel you somewhat, buddy.

What makes OK Computer different from a lot of other classics is that in my experience even most detractors actually like the album a lot, they just don't think it's a true classic.

True. Virtually every other 'classic' has people that genuinely think it flat-out sucks. I'm sure there are people out there think that of OKC but I can't imagine many of them have got extensive music listening experience i.e. are really 'into' music.
