Yeah confrontational might nail the tone better than dismissive - there's sort of an understood challenge to those who adore Ok Computer.

LandD - I'm saying it would be more confrontational than this review ;P
|

For the record... are you an Amnesiac naysayer Doofus, or a defendant of?

If my memory serves me right he's a naysayer

He's a good man.

my rating is based on all the tracks contained herein, aka the original album and all the bsides just for clarity
if the review comes off as confrontational I apologise, it's more that I wanted to express my genuine opinion on it rather than praise the album because it's generally considered worthy of praise, or whatever. no offense but there have been literally hundreds of think pieces over the years praising this album as a masterpiece, can you guys not entertain a counterpoint for a couple paragraphs?
|
| |
I entertained it, I mean this album has one of the most established backlashes in musical history - Radiohead are the poster boys for critical reappraisal. This wasn't a gasp at a sacred cow being behedded out of nowhere, I just think you come at this album arse-about-tit in relation to how I see it. I can entertain the opinion though, sure.
|
| |
Put it this way, there's no album I revisit with 'am I sure I'm still going to love this as much as before?' in my head as 'OK Computer'. I entertain the fact I might no longer consider it a classic every time I spin it.
|
| |
Don't get me wrong Row I respect the review and it's nice to have a counter argument even if I don't personally agree with it.

fair enough lads, just feels like there's no other album like this one that gets praised far beyond what I actually hear when I spin it. I mean look at zak's comment on the first page, he thinks this thing is the second coming of Jesus basically, when all of their 2000 and on work is so much more vibrant and beautiful (to me at least)
|
| |
Loved this. Nice review either way though - even if a bit controversial (there's no pleasing all Radiohead fans).

did you know Radiohead actually invented music? whenever anyone anywhere writes a song they legally have to credit Radiohead in the liner notes as the writers or it's a lawsuit

Ok computer. What a strange relationship I have with it. On one hand, I think it's probably the most overrated album of all time, but there's so much nostalgia attached to it, and sometimes I'm just in the mood

The cavemen swooned and healed to their cathartic brand of rock percussion

Great review.
Radiohead fanboys can be just the worst

hey I take issue with tha -- eh, yeah, you're right

To be fair though Row, zak was actually there when the original album was released so his initial impressions of it, hyperbolic as they may sound to you, are arguably the most unbiased (sure there were reviewers and probably the press blowing it up at the time but still). The younger ones among us can't fully appreciate what it was like to hear this in 1997, and while it may not have aged well for everyone or sound quite as good to new listeners his opinion should hold a lot of weight.

You probably just don't like the genre they're operating with here as much
Just have to be careful to avoid shooting the Thin White Duke for not being Ziggy Stardust.
|
| |
I don't really see a load of Radiohead fanboys here, everyone has a couple of albums by them they like a lot less :/
I have half their albums on a 4.5-5 rating and the other half 2-3, I'm a whingey hyper critical bitch with them.

Idk Doof, for every one like you there's an AmericanFlagAsh.
To be fair I'm a pretty big fanboy as well, I only rate two albums below a 4
