I mean he's always been pretty consistent, but never like this. This record sounds like nothing I've heard in the past couple years. Kudos to Staples for taking a huge risk & having it pay off !

the beats on this are so so good, and if vince's lyrics/flow were at the same genre-topping level this would've been an easy 4.5. still a fantastic, addictive listen though

I love the production and Yeah Right is probably song of the year but goddamn Vince was so underwhelming on this album. I just did not care for any of his verses. Kendrick's verse is better than any of his. The hooks are really bland for the most part. Rain Come Down is awful.

My biggest gripe with this yah. And I usually dig his flows on plenty of individual tracks he's released, but he didn't bring much personality on this.

His voice is so distinctive, and the beats so beyond the usual reach for a rapper, that I'm finding it hard to agree with this criticism of Staples being a non-presence. His voice is a part of the mix, which for this type of music is much more impressive than scrambling atop it.

Agreed hard

tbh even if I might consider DAMN to be the better "rap" album of the year, this is probably my favorite hip hop album to come out in 2017 (if that makes any sense)

What is Summertime '06 and his other stuff like compared to this?
