Hey AFI rules

I really miss old AFI, the Hardcore AFI was amazing, even the more gothish punk rock thing was really good, Sing the Sorrow is a stellar record, especially Bleed Black and But Home is Nowhere.

The production of this album is utter s*** and rubbish to be honest. Take 'Love Like Winter' for example. The loud and quiet sections of the song are played at exactly the same volume which results with the songs sounding VERY dull. This Message Edited On 11.30.06

God this album is so ridiculously bad. I'm going to see them in a week and a half, and I pray to god they don't play too much off of this shitheap.

I give it a pretty sad 2/5. I've been a fan of AFI ever since I picked up Sing the Sorrow, and I like their more punk stuff as well. I'm not averse to a band changing. I like Avenged Sevenfold's change for the better and I still like System of a Down's more soft and melodic newer songs. Change isn't what bothers me. What bothers me is that this album is such a complete watered down version of what they used to make. The lyrical content went from dark, fatalistic, and genius poetry to mostly uninspired psuedo-poetry focusing mostly on relationship issues. That's not a step forward. The isntrumentation went from energetic and frantic to a little too electronic for my tastes and there was a clear watering down of Jade's frantic guitar work. The only tracks I have any taste for on this album are Miss Murder (which is the only exceptional track, I think), Kill Caustic (merely good), and Kiss and Control (merely good till the end when it gets great). Overall they seem to have made a calculated decision to make a more poppy and sappy emo-inspired pop-punk kinda sound, which happens to be the current trend coincidentally enough. In other words, they are sellouts. I hate this album. Sing the Sorrow is one of the absolute greatest albums ever made and I have a metalhead who hates punk rock that agrees with me about that. Decemberunderground is one of the biggest disappointments ever. Said metalhead also agrees.

Words can't describe the extent to which AFI's sound has changed for the worse, so i wont even begin to try and desribe it.

AFI got album of the year and artist of the year in Alternative Press magazine, which begs the question: ..What the fuck?

I agree with both Spat out Plath, and BFhrricane, this album is not great, and not bad, its inbetween.. I'd say missing frame, or love like winter is my favorite..

I don't like this album that much. my favorite is still "Black Sails In The Sunset," and although "Sing The Sorrow," was a drastic change music wise, It was still god. This album never got my attention though.
edit: It was still good. This Message Edited On 03.30.07

^^This album had some songs that were worth listening to the whole way through.
"Black Sails" is pretty good. "Sing the Sorrow" is awesome! I also like "All Hallow's EP".

meh, I love this album, I guess I am in the minority though. It's not as good as black sails or art of drowning or even sing the sorrow, but still

You keep comparing DU songs to STS songs when they have NOTHING in common. Affliction to Dancing Through Sunday!? WTF?
I liked AFI until this album. If they want to switch from hardcore punk to synthetic pop/emo, alright. I just hate the lyrics on DU. They lost their poetic, nice edge.
