"That breakdown in "Clarity Through Deprivation"one of the sickest moments in a death metal song ever!" is quite the oversell

"Return to the Abyss" is a legit good suffocation song.

Honestly I like most of their post reunion stuff but this is just so phoned in and mediocre.

But like someone pointed out earlier most death metal bands decline in quality after a while. Usually they have a classic period of 3 or 4 albums and then everything after is either decent or downright bad. Suffo I think faired better than a lot of other old school bands on most of their newer stuff but this is just not good

The guitar sounds so weak on this

I have a feeling this album would have been better if they didn’t have a “look at me me” drummer for it. The drums for suffocation always would follow along the riff and this guy tries way to hard to deviate from that.

Utterly forgettable ;(

imo the main issue for this album is the production.
however with that said, i still enjoy this release (even though its probably the weakest suffocation LP)

"Plus it's always great to hear Frank Mullen's awesome death metal vocals, the guy is still king!"
he hasnt been "awesome" since Effigy of the Forgotten. on Pierced From Within he was still decent, after that he fell well below average. hes totally overrated imo.

I love this band and actually think their modern albums are better than theyre given credit for but this? This just isnt good...production this clean has no place in BDM and Frank's vocals are on their last leg

that 90 second long deathcore esque breakdown at the end of the first song kinda sums up the album for me

I heard this once more since my last comment and i still believe the main issue here is the production

"Frank's vocals are on their last leg"
He left the band finally, thank god. He wasnt very good but passable on the newer albums, until this one.

If you have iPhone then change the EQ setting to “late night” and put on this album. It’s how the album should’ve been produced..

lol, altering EQ with presets on a phone..do you know how much time a mastering engineer put into each song? That's a bad advice my man. Anyways, sure the master sounds clicky and compressed, but I've heard worst. At least the mix is well balanced and that bass poping up here and there is nice in the single song I listened.
Still gonna check the whole thing regardless of that average and anticipating to be disappointed

The production on this makes me wanna cry man how you gonna give Suffocation such a squeaky clean production job

pinnacle of bedlam has like the same production lol. and eqs make sense if your headphones/speakers suck in general, my 98blazer just has bass/treble and i usually keep them both slightly below medium and crank it, whoops
