This album sounds exactly like their first (music wise). It'll be hard for them to top Earthwalker, a very solid record.

This sounds nothing like Divinations... If anything, it's a blend of Earthwalker and Skydancer. I don't think this tops Earthwalker, but it's more consistent than Skydancer overall.

Better than Skydancer but inferior to Earthwalker and Divination. Oh, and better than Northlane's Mesmer. My fave track is Frequency

After having this for a month I agree with all except for the last part, I don't really like Frequency that much

Mesmer is still my AOTY so I don't agree with this being better, but I do think it's better than Skydancer and Divination (maybe Earthwalker too? Earthwalker has better standout tracks but Ark is more consistent).

Divination is their best by far imo, and Mesmer was decent, definitely don't like it as much as I did when it came out

I just don't get the love for Divination. I tried it but I find it unlistenable. Vocals are just ugh.

There's a lot of reasons why I love Divination as much as I do.

For starters, the instrumentation is the best that they've ever shown. Sure there is still a lot of chugging, but there are a lot more bottom note riffs, as well as leads that go over the riffs seamlessly and bring a certain atmosphere to songs such as Survival, Shapeless, and Release. More lead guitar parts going to the higher strings and frets gave more variation throughout the album, while also pulling it all together to make it feel that you were listening to one cohesive idea.

As for the vocals, Jake sounded absolutely vicious all over the album. His mids had more power to them, and he could do some pretty damn good bellowing lows that he never goes back to after Divination. Kyle on the other hand had a more hit and miss performance, however his vocal immaturity fit very well over the music when the leads were sustained underneath his vocals. As if Jake wasn't enough, they had some high caliber guest performances on the record. Winston McCall sounded right at home over the bottom note riffing, as did Chad. They even switched up their style to more of a Northlane sound when Adrian made his appearance, which shows that they knew how to make each guest appearance feel authentic. Garret's guest spot was a bit weak, but they made sure to accompany him with familiar instrumentation that one would find in The Color Morale

They were never able to capture that energy and sheer ferocity that they had on Divination to me, and still to this day I'm blown away by Divination. I know most people think Earthwalker is their best, but Divination just resonated so well with me

Nomad, Frequency, Waterborne, Flow and Totality are brilliant. The rest great/good
