Bro it's I hear you but it's not supposed to be The Voice of Steel. That album is one of the best ever made imo to be fair so you can't really expect them to replicate it. This is just way more straightforward than pretty much everything else they've put out.

This band is a victim of its own prior success. Change the formula from VoS and it's a losing move. Keep the formula and it's a losing move.
I personally think this is an excellent album. Sure, it's not on the level of VoS but is that really their fault? For what they set out to achieve, this album is excellent.

If it sounds good to listen to moment-to-moment then that doesn't sound like much of an issue to me. I fucking love Darkthrone's Transylvanian Hunger (top 15 albums) but it's not exactly a Blackwater Park.
