Carrie and Lowell is still the definitive album on loss, for myself. Everyone seems to cite Mt eeries newest or skeleton tree, and they're both pretty good but don't come close to c&l

In terms of musical enjoyment C&L wins out for me. In terms on an encapsulation of grief and the documentation of the experience I favour the new Mount Eerie. Both are stunning albums though, and all in all I probably prefer (if thats the right word for such albums) C&L

I'm really struggling to see the universal praise this has, eventually got painful to finish. Took away almost everything that made the studio good and added things that go against what I liked about it in the first place.

It's like Casualties of Cool, Brian Eno, Sufjan Stevens' latest few records, A Moon Shaped Pool, Messe by Ulver, and recent The National records all meshed into one epic experience.
