honestly, the material off this live is way better and feel fresher. main reason why I have this at a 4 as I’ve seen him tour and ahndful of times for this record. I recommend checkin out his recent live sets, the songs here get proper jazzy revisions. and the drummer he tours with is sick.

Never been a big fan of his to start with. His music is overproduced drab. The kind of beat saturation that makes every song sound the damn same, with next to no memorable hooks

For this to be less than a consensus 4 or greater is a crime. Obviously due to a glaring lack of minor keys and pentatonic scales. Still - speaks volumes about the bias on this forum.

its all one chord progression looped a few times, definitely channels giant steps hard. most of the complexity is in thundercat's improv and less in how the song's actually written.
