The rating is pretty on par

I wish Chutes Too Narrow was at least a 4 or higher

Yeah, this isn't up to the Shins' usual standards but it's still something I get the feeling I'll come back to fairly often. My second listen made me like it far more than the first try.

Not the biggest fan of Port Of Morrow. But even the Shin's early "classics" took a while to grow on me, so I'm hopeful about this one.

No love in this thread for 'Wincing The Night Away'? To me it's one of the best examples of what big money production can do for an 'indie' band. Sounds nice as fuck, is experimental in all the right ways ('Sea Legs') but still maintains what made them unique in the first place.

Agree that they have uniformly great album art though. Always.

There's maybe like 4 or 5 decent songs on here but nothing is a clear stand out.

The best track on this album is hands down 'So What Now'. As Rudy rightly points out, however, it feels divorced from the rest of the album, both in terms of its stand-out quality, and the fact that I already had it on repeat back in 2014 when it dropped.

The eponymous track 'Heartworms' is decent; feels like it could have appeared somewhere on Port of Morrow without being out of place. Virtually every other aspect of this album is a disappointment.

Well written review. "The disease of more" is spot on!

1. Name For You - 3

2. Painting a Hole - 2.5

3. Cherry Hearts - 3.5

4. Fantasy Island - 3.5

5. Mildenhall - 3.5

6. Rubber Ballz - 2

7. Half a Million - 3

8. Dead Alive - 3

9. Heartworms - 3

10. So Now What - 3.5

11. The Fear - 3

The point is most all of these are good songs, so even if there are no standout hits this is pretty damn consistently catchy and pleasant. Probably one of my favorite Mercer releases.

Name For You over Dead Alive? Can't take your ratings seriously.

Dead Alive is decent is but forgettable compared to most of the songs on the first half of this record. Probably should have rated it a 3 though because it has a really cool vibe.

This is the 'big name' album I'm least inspired to check so far in 2017

Might get to it later today

Doof you'll hate this, which is evidenced by the fact that I enjoy it so much.

I just bumped my rating for it to a 4.
