fact is most people do not particularly care for/appreciate music, beyond the anodyne disposable trash thats fed to them on the radio. They view music from a completely different complexion than we who actually actively listen and deconstruct music take.
For many It's just the background noise to other activities partying or jogging, nothing more. Then again there are definitely areas which they have knowledge/interest that i'm clueless about like cars or fishing or whatever the fuck.
It's just unfortunate that the radio panders to these people and vice versa and we're forced to sit there and shake our heads.
