Sounds great from this review, I am actually hyped and that rarely happens to me these days. Carrion Skies is an album I thought was decent when I first heard it, but over the years has grown on me to the point I 5'ed it. One of my go to contemplative albums when commuting to work.
It looks like the limited edition Winter box had sold out before I could afford it I really wanted the bonus cd. The bonus disc that came with Carrion Skies was as long as an album in it's own right.

Roll the hype train. Best of the year so far, for me. Arkhtinn just came out yesterday and that's awesome, and Orm and Svart Crown are great too but not released yet.

Oo buddy imma have to check those out too thanks. Ill he shocked if anything beats this this year. 2016 was like... Unreasonably good for metal. If 2017 is that level ill die

Yeah you'll like Orm. Folk metal but in the European vein -- think a really aggressive Caladan Brood. Debut albums are always exciting.

So how much of this is supposed to sound Agallochy? Bc the slower bm sections sound straight up Agalloch to me.

I hear no agalloch tbh this is better than 99% agalloch but im sure most here gonna disagree with me on that. I do get the odd enslaved vibe.. Not that thats a bad thing.
|
| |
i hear more metallic agalloch but with none of the folk. And some Woods of Desolation on track 4.

This absolutely sounds more like Enslaved than Agalloch, I fully agree. I never understood why this band hasn't been correlated with Enslaved more. There were countless folks calling them an Agalloch clone years ago. They grew out of that ages ago. Of course they belong in the same general territory, but they're both fiercer and more progressive than Agalloch. Fen very much have their own identity, and their Agalloch influences are largely aesthetic these days (popping up in imagery, art, motif, and the softer sections). They would make natural label mates. They've toured with both Agalloch and Primordial in past, and would make an interesting touring duo with Enslaved.

I really hear the enslaved come out in the some of the more epic riffs and chord structures they use. Glad someone agrees. Most people just go blah blah agalloch blah blah blah

Yeah man. I cant say I've heard many albums that are both so musically brilliant and atmospherically impactful at the same time. Its usually a trade off of elements but not here.
