It should also be noted that sowing is in the minority thinking that in the attic is the best antlers, still a lovely album though.

Yeah if you're going by popular opinion then Hospice would be the proper starting point.

I just like the lo-fi indie approach of Attic better.

Attic is best Antlers [2]

hits waaaay harder than hospice bc hospice is more of a distant emotional hit, while attic is like, really intimate and personal

Just read Sowing's In The Attic of the Universe review, and it sounds like something I'd love, so I'll give that a listen first, and then I'll check Hospice if I like it. Cheers for the recs, excited. :]

That EP (or song, I guess) Transcendless Summer is super interesting as a sort of prelude to this. And also, In The Attic of the Universe was fantastic.

This is cool but I wish there was more going on. Still, touching to hear how he recovered

It's honestly a little annoying that the context of this album has become such a selling point. Like, Familiars is The Antler's best album imo and it doesn't have any personal context like Hospice or this album does and it doesn't really need it.

But I guess ultimately that might come across as a little insensitive, since these albums are clearly very personal to Peter and that can't really be separated from the music but w/e I digress

I mean all of their albums are personal to Peter, and it's probably just the cynic in me, but whenever I hear a story like this, I just can like already see what the pitchfork review looks like and how it's like 76% just a summary of all the backstory

But really though, losing your hearing as a musician has to be one of the most horrifying things ever

I was feeling particularly numb one day and felt like "Karuna" was what I needed, and boy was I right. I drove around town and listened to the album, and the quiet and distance of it works so well for the hours before a breakdown.
