I was annoyed for half the album because most of it fucking owns, but some of the vocals are just goofy as fuck and take A LOT away from the experience for me. This could be a 4.5, no joke. Maybe they'll grow on me, but I doubt it.

I jammed their most recent when it came out and remember cleans, but not hokey shit. Might have to revisit it.

This owns and wrecks everything else, but not because of vocals agreed...vocals are like rape and not goofy though. 4.5 is the minimum rate acceptable ahah

The only vox I don't like are power metal wailing and 'core screams.

But yeah I had to get used these.

Like on Renaissance I had a problem with the guitar sound, but that also went away.

Been on Type O Negative recently and definitely can tell where these guys come from, in terms of vibe and melodic vocals ;)

lolol I'm trying to say that only now I've come to get on Type O Negative. Akercocke's vocalist melodic tone is quite similar. Also, there is often a punk vibe here that you could say is Type O Negative inspired. Not to mention how orgasmic the sexual content is displayed X)

I can't explain it much further...but luckily I found some more POVs/ revs online that supported my stupid observation lol - prob as stupid as me lol

One thing is to say they are objectively and intentionally inspired by it, other is to try to describe their sound, which is when I think it gets pretty accurate.

"These songs, to me at least, strike as an almost eclectic mixture of vintage Type O Negative merged with some of the best sounds death metal has to offer. Definately the most immediately engaging tracks on the album, though if you listen to the other tracks enough of the way through, you'll find elements you'll like in nearly every song."

"Akercocke always did some really cool dark romantic death metal, falling somewhere between Borknagar, Deicide, and Type O Negative."

Type O Negative as far as I can tell, created this gothrock thing influenced by some punk, post punk and many others...Akercocke uses that aesthetics a lot in my humble opinion. It is also pretty much identifiable on their other project Voices. Try a little harder guys ahahah

Hawks likes things for what they are and often disagree with other ppl's vibes, sometimes even when they are generalized. That's an exercise I like to do, even if there's no direct correlation between them.

you do realize goth rock was created way before type o was formed right?

I believe so lol but they have also created an aesthetic of their own in metal I think...maybe I'm wrong and they were not unique and a major influential band.

never said they weren't influential. I love the band. Theyre probably the only goth metal band I like. I cant stand the symphonic shite that became popular later
