No but they're usually at least catchy or intense. I mean a lot of their songs are built around choruses. I just think the whole "haaaaaaaaaang the elephant, haaaaaaaaaang the elephant" is dull af

Those verses though.

"I don't know anything about truth,

but I know falsehood when I see it,

and it looks like this whole world you've made"

"Lord, for sixty-so years I've surrendered my love,

to emblems of kindness, and not the kindness they were emblems of"

"Sometimes I think all our thoughts are just things,

and then sometimes think things are just thoughts"

"This mock trial can no more determine my lot,

than can driftwood determine the ocean's waves"

Come on man that track is pure poetry

Elephant is one of my least favorite tracks, mainly not a fan of the chorus. But Aubergine and Mermaid are great.

Hayley's contributions on this are so fitting. This is def tied for my #1 mwY album, the other being B,S.

This album has, like, 0 bad songs : )

It's just edged out by B,S for me but this album is such a fine tuned machine; so fluid and outstanding in its execution.

Catch for us and brother sister are the only albums of theirs really worth listening to imo. Aubergine is annoying as fuck. Mermaid does nothing, elephant has one of the most boring choruses ever

Their best album lyrically, Nine Stories is their best song, their most thematically complete and cohesive album, just their best album.

Ya know, I think that's a fair argument, so I'll just say it's my favorite of theirs lyrically

I'm not too keen on Pale Horses lyrics because they're so damn arcane and indecipherable imo but there's some true gems even there as well

I tend to like his more abstract/indecipherable lyrics opposed to his more straight forward ones, definitely makes sense why this is your favorite mwY lyrically

Yep, I definitely prefer his more flowery straightforward stuff. This is honestly maybe my favorite album lyrically by anyone. Left and Leaving exists tho so it's hard to say

@calmrose: It's just shadow art of The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me's cover.

Concerning the lyrics, they're brilliant on every record so I suppose it's just about what theme you identify with. B,S is very existential, Pale Horse is apocalyptic, and this is by far their most philosophical (my review here summarizes that). I love them all just about equally - but B,S has always been my favorite because it's intensity makes the messages sound more urgent. In terms of melodic flow and how the words read on paper however, I prefer this.

"B,S is very existential"
