I think a lot of people's initial reaction is to hate any new Metallica release for not being like the classics. For those that get beyond that, they seem to usually find that the new stuff is enjoyable (but clearly still not a classic).

imagine approaching an album open to enjoying it instead of wanting to fulfill the expectation that you have to dislike it

The past is the best indication of the future, and Metallica haven’t made a really good album in like 30 years. Some say longer

"godDAM does Spit Out the Bone fuck"
It really does. I love how it keeps up that momentum for the entire 7 minutes too

How worth checking out is this when I really only ever bump the first 4 LPs, and even then only every blue moon? Wasn't particularly crazy about Lux Aeterna. Was underwhelmed by Hardwired and that has a better avg than this.
Edit: Thought this was the thread for the new album for some reason. My bumbling ass.

Made a six-song version of this with Spit as the opener and Halo as the closer lol

^ It definitely makes sense to have Halo as the closer, considering that melodic outro it has.
Listening to this in its entirety again right now, and I still stand by the 3.5 rating for the most part. Some of the songs have actually gotten BETTER over time though imo

I mean there’s not really anything offensively bad on it, just kinda boring imo
I listened to it once and barely remember any of it. It’s got the same problem their last like five records have. It’s just too damn long. One thing I’ll give them is that they at least sound like they still give a shit. It doesn’t really feel like they’re putting out a record just for the fuck of it.

I do agree that these records are too long for their own good. I think my personal tracklist for Hardwired would go like this:
1. Spit Out the Bone
2. Atlas, Rise!
3. Now That We're Dead
4. Moth into Flame
5. Dream No More
6. Here Comes Revenge
7. ManUNkind
8. Halo on Fire
Solid 55 minutes or so of music right there
Also, Murder One might be one of the worst modern Metallica songs. Such a shame that it's the song they chose to pay tribute to Lemmy

I’d throw the t/t in there and swap manunkind with confusion

lmfao Koris that is remarkably similar to mine:
1. Spit Out the Bone
2. Now That We're Dead
3. Moth into Flame
4. Confusion
5. ManUNkind
6. Halo on Fire
Not big on Atlas!!
