100% agreed with your description of Mono. Didn't listen to this album, but Mono always struck me as vapid.

The side-project sounds more interesting. Check it here:

It's basically a "text-based" adventure game with Mono's Taka doing the music for it. Music is loop-based but sounds nice.

This sounds less like a rant about Mono and more like a rant about post-rock in general.

Except that it's exclusively a rant about Mono and not post-rock in general? I hate reviews that rant about post-rock and thankfully this review wasn't one of them.

Pure As Snow is an absolute godsend. Glad you're loving them! Be sure to jam You Are There and Walking Cloud too.

man, if you're diggin' em now, just wait til the winter weather comes
about two years ago I listened to You Are There and Hymn back to back late at night after finishing my Thanksgiving break work, with a cup of cocoa, lights off, gazing out the window as the calm snow fell
can still vividly recall that as being one of the coziest moments in my whole life

I can imagine them being phenomenal winter music.

If you listen carefully, the difference between this and for example "For my Parents" should actually be very obvious.
This is a very subtle album which feels somewhat underwhelming at first listen but grows over time to a very worthy addition to their discography. The title track is massive, almost "Black Snow" quality. "Ely's Heartbeat" reminds me of the collaboration with World's End Girlfriend. Minimalistic, but emotionally very dense (if you can get into it, i suppose).
The review is far too harsh and changing between extremes always seems a little bit suspicious and foolish. Why did the reviewer like the band in the first place?
