Sounds like something you would have heard on the radio in the 90's.

Whats hard for me is that Taking Back Sundays first 4 albums were all so different and awesome (New Again had some filler, but 5 or so kick ass tracks). Ever since they reformed, they've just seem to be coasting. This CD on first spin though definitely came off as the strongest of the most recent 3, I'll be giving it a bit more time and listens for sure.

gotta get on this, if only because I used to jam their first two albums on repeat back in the day.

You Can't Look Back is phenomenal. It sounds eerily familiar, but its just so infectious.

I dunno about anybody else, but I'm getting a Tom Petty vibe from You Can't Look Back

Every song has something to offer, but the first half is definitely the best. The streak of Death Wolf >>>Fences is outstanding.

I'll give this a shot because of the band they were but I gotta say this review doesn't get my hopes up.

I think it's disrespectful to your sound if you completely trash it for a new sound which sounds pretty much like music from an era before yours. Then people like you backhandly say that their sound had 'matured' implying, but usually saying outright, that the music you liked as a teenager was juvenile and dumb. It represented a generation (probably an overstatement) but what is the point of rehashing music from an era before yours represent? It's a freaking shame TAYF was a classic album now, because of all the flack it has gotten over the years from people who wanna sound 'mature' the band completely abandoned the music that made them special to begin with. Plus to compare this to TDaGaRIM is another embarrassment, BN expanded on Deja's sound and themes creating something unique, that didn't feel like any band at the time plus still retaining what made them special in Deja. If you can't hear that, you're lost. I hope I'm wrong but after that weak S/T and the tracks I listened to so far, hopes aren't high.

I just dont understand this reoccuring apparent disdain that bands like TBS/FSF/TREOS have for what they accomplished years ago. Look at bands like Copeland/TEN who reunited to play upgraded versions of their sound instead of trashing it to fit in with the times. Say what you want about top 40 BS but at least they don't change their sound to fit what the critics say. Rock music has always had 1 eye looking back at the apparent hayday as stated by your father or older cousin, while other brands of music is planted in the present. If I wanted to listen to 1980s rock, I will. I dont...

When I click on TBS, I kind of wanna listen to TBS. Just saying
/rant

I will go back and brush up on my knowledge of Brand New before making such brash comparisons in the future.

Haha I can sense your sarcasm from here. That's fine, I'm not going to argue no point I'm just a lowly double digit commenter about to get trashed by the masses for disagreeing with a moderator. We don't agree (quite a bit apparently based on your reviews before) but that's fine, everyone has different tastes.

No it's cool and I wasn't trying to be derogatory in my reply; I think your initial rant just comes off a little sharp in tone. But yeah it's fine not to like this obviously - to be honest I'm only a fair weather TBS fan so I'm far from an expert on the band. But in my experience with them, this tops every record of theirs that I've heard with the clear exception of Tell All Your Friends.

my biggest problem is the chorus. adam sounds awful there imo, and the lyrics at that part felt kinda saccharine imo

but again, i need to listen to this album again when im not digging on the nick cave so much haha
