Cory is a Christian but the band isn't as blatantly so as they used to be. He says fuck on 1,000,000 Watts lol
You should still check all of their stuff though, no reason not to if you like this. Their first two are actually their two most chaotic and visceral
I love Ingram's vocal spot on this, one of the most memorable parts imo

The doc isn't bad. It just isn't all that good. It feels like your standard indie documentary. The studio location is pretty gorgeous, so they snuck some awesome shots between the talking, but it is unnecessarily long for the ground it covers. I didn't feel like I knew much more about the album after seeing it than prior to, and I haven't exactly been keeping up with the band's social media. Worth checking out, I watched it again after writing the review, and it's got some interesting tidbits strewn throughout. But as a companion piece to the album, it is quite lacking.

Ah well I might as well check it out.
Read up on the album's lyrics a bit and this has some pretty personal stuff on it. "Everyone Talking Over Everyone Else" is apparently about an abusive relationship Cory was in.

How comes that if the first albums are visceral and chaotic they actually have pretty poor ratings?

because they are visceral and chaotic just not that greatly executed

They have poor ratings cause they were cool to hate cause they sounded like botch and were Christian. All the old stuff has aged well tho. O God live was awesome.

they are an easy band to hate on, especially when back then they'd receive more bad ratings

totally agree on that, i love the tone on it and its got my 2 favourite norma jean songs (memphis and sometimes its our mistakes)
but so much of it sorta meanders
|

Nothing they've done is less than a 3.5 except arguably Anti Mother
I have no problem with BtM meandering, it's a great album to get lost in

After 4 full listens, this is definitely a more cohesive album and better overall integration of the elements of their sound than Wrongdoers (the heavier sung parts are executed much better). But it lacks some of the memorability and awesome highlights that album had.
Still kick ass though. Probably worth a vinyl order.
Anyone else think the chorus of Reaction sounds like it could've been on Bring Me the Horizon's latest album?

I Used To Hate Cell Phones But Now I Hate Car Accidents is still my jam off of Bless The Martyr. Especially the last stretch.
Very happy Norma Jean continue to expand. They were my favorite band in high school, and they continue to impress me.
