the only song i can't get into from IV these days is king of swords. I have to be in the right mood for remembered. and if all goes well is kinda boring. Other than that, it's a choice album

This is easily tied alongside with Act IV as the best act. The album still needs to sink in, but I can just tell on my first listens that this album is incredible

King of Swords is fantastic, it's basically black comedy that the happiest sounding tune they've written is the one where Hunter just throws away all his morals, it's great

If All Goes Well is fuckin trash tho

so what's everyone's thoughts on this album story-wise? I reckon TP/P kills the Boy's son, Boy burns down the Dime, the angry crowd chases him out of town and he jumps into the river to start anew. Also Mr. Usher is the devil

I've listened to all the Acts multiple times and I honestly have no idea what the story even is.

there are some really good analyses song-by-song on the internet if you have a couple of hours to kill. honestly you can't really enjoy them to their full extent if you don't know the story so if this is already a 5 for you then you would probably lose your shit

It's worth it, really good story as well genuinely well written. Don't do it all in one go though I tried that and just got exhausted by the time I was at like Act IV

actually I chatted to a dude who works for Evil Ink who says there'll be a book at some point but they're gonna finish the comic run first so hype. the movie rights have been bought but I don't think they have any plans for it, would probably suck anyway the story's way too complex

I had to finally create a profile with this website to address this review. I've been following this band for the majority of a lifetime and I've been looking for a review with this album that agrees with my opinion completely, and this takes my recognition. Great review for a timeless album. "The second is that this is the most polished Act of them all." - with a collection so great, I totally understand and agree.

Row I didn't say they'd necessarily be a good folk act but at least they'd stand a chance. Obviously I'm kidding because there's clearly a huge market for this stuff, the artwork and story/acts thing is clever marketing to another generations pleasure receptors. I'm immune cos I'm a fossil.

This is nowhere near as irritating as the Thank You Scientist but this still has a bit of that same unappealing glossy sheen and melodramatic vibe. I nearly 2.5'd it but then a really shitty section would turn up and trample any good feeling I'd built up previously unfortunately.

But literally all their appeal is in their big sections and clever genre-shifting so as a folk act they'd stand literally no chance at all is what I'm trying to say. You're right though I didn't expect you to like this at all - I'd say give their album Migrant a listen it's probably bland and one-note enough for your tastes :-)

I dunno, I think I like a lot of stuff that shift genre but not a lot that puts 'SHIFTS GENRE' up in lights on the billboard - I think it's healthy to be a little bit suspicious of anything that goes all out to be 'progressive' above anything else. Mainly though I don't like this due to it having that all pervasive gloss and laying everything on super thick, not the fact it is genre shifting.

There's nothing to be suspicious of here; casey is a phenomenal songwriter. It has nothing to do with being progressive for the sake of it.
