i think the production on this album is great. the guy who does all the dance gavin dance albums did the last one so it sounds super clean and polished and tight. the production on this isn't close to that, so it sounds jarring to some people

It definitely is jarring. On my first listen it sounded like a different band. Album is definitely a grower but for me it's too experimental to beat the awesome consistency of the EP and LYE - especially the vocals which are a clear step down on this album. I think it bodes well for the band's future though, they've got a lot more to give.

Funny, I think pretty much everything mentioned - vocals, mixing, and production, are as good or better here than they were on LYE.
I love LYE for what it is but when it made me wonder what these guys were capable of if they went in a more experimental, atmospheric direction. This album did exactly that. Gonna be hard to top this for AOTY for me. I'm debating 5'ing this one if I still feel the same in time.

Yeah, there's some stuff on here that makes me wish Kris Crummett was producing again, but overall I think the production here suits the sound they were going for

That video is sweet, 4:15 and onward made my eyes water a bit though

That vid is really unique and memorable. Really does bother your eyes but at the same time goes great with the intensity of the song.

His screams on this album sound just a tad better than they ever have before.

Drift really grew on me. A few people were bashing the "unenthusiastic" vocals but I think Doug sounds perfect on that song.

pretty disappointed in this album. everyone keeps saying how they "don't mind" listening to the atmospheric tracks. If thats all you can say about a quarter of the record than thats not saying too much.

"everyone keeps saying how they "don't mind" listening to the atmospheric tracks."
Where? It seems like people are saying the atmospheric tracks help the pace of the album
