I'd say that pop-punk is part of the mix of genres that the S/T, Neighborhoods, and Dogs Eating Dogs was comprised of. This album is clearly supposed to sound more like pre-S/T Blink, from the instrumentation to the tone of the lyrics...and I think they failed at that. They forwarded this idea in interviews too, saying that anyone who ever liked a song in Blink's discography would like this album, that Rabbit Hole sounded like it could've been on Enema, etc. They certainly didn't set out trying to make a poorly written pop rock record, and so it all just sounds like this forced, soulless thing to me, so I thought it was worth criticizing them for failing, IMO, to make the album feel like a Blink record.
Even if Blink was a pop rock band all along, this album has a ton of problems which I brought up in my review such as the lyrics, musicianship, and unoriginality.
And on the whole record thing, I think there are two musical definitions of record, one being vinyl, and one being any recorded music.

A lot of bands are selling vinyl with a digital download code... best of both worlds.

I love vinyl. Way better than CD and download. Less convenient yes, but more worth it, to me.

I didn't bother with any of the interviews and only checked out the early songs once or twice. At any rate, Blink is only capable of so much and there's no way they recapture their youth when they're probably all in their 40s... so, I guess I went in with lower expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

--Avoiding my comments I see lol. Can't actually talk about the record, huh?--
Let us old men sit in our rocking chairs for a moment. We'll yell at you to get off our lawns later.

Skiba, and Barker are both 40. Hoppus is 44.

Made me laugh.

Yeah, I knew it had to be close.
On a side note since Sum 41 was brought up. I've heard a lot of Metallica covers, but theirs is the best.

@Willie
Well I didn't expect the record to feel like, TOYPAJ or Enema, just to sound like it. Which in my mind, it doesn't. I expected it to feel like a Blink record like S/T or Neighborhoods did (to define what that would be - honest, pop-punk influenced songs with clean/raw production), and it doesn't do that for me either. That's where I'm coming from.

A step behind Self-Titled in songwriting and ideas, but not complete garbage. If you were looking for the next best pop-punk album, you're looking in the wrong place.
