The janky pacing is probably due to the drums which have some of the most odd but awesome syncopations I’ve heard from TD. And now I never ever understood the “meh” attitude with this album because it to me is so expressive, and so HUGE. I do find it more harmonically interesting that BLD, that album doesn’t sound natural, and feels tiny compared to this. This to me sounds like a recording from a space station and I feel like the aesthetic, at least sonically, is perfect and fully realized. I think the synth and bass interplay on here is some of the best I’ve heard in my life. Not the very best but one of the very best.

Always good to see love for this one. Amalia’s Theme and Brittle Urchin are two of their best.

Love the atmosphere of this thing. In fact, there's a poem I wrote back in 2019 called Chasm of Clouds, and the imagery was entirely influenced by the synths of this record:

Chasm of Clouds

——————————-

Waving my farewell

to the base of the sky,

I explore the abstractions

of several millennia’s making;

the claustrophobia of corridors

disappears as the doors widen,

the chasm below expands,

touches of reality fade away.

Transcending the wreckage

and grief,

ascending beyond the weight

of the sunken earth;

prevailing against the turmoils

of life’s upkeep;

never to descend

into old pulses.

Every spirit has amassed

into a formless cluster,

as no shadow dares invade

the divinity of the lifespace;

my eyes are crystalline

and fatigue has fled.

Yet slowly the earth calls

through a regained heartbeat

under the sky;

familiar voices are shouting

in an unseen distance.

As the formless assumes form,

as the breathless draws breath,

I descend, improbably,

into the chasm of clouds.
