"I always wonder why people have to pop up several times in an album discussion to say they don't like it. Aren't there albums out there you actually like you can be talking about instead?"
There are, of course, but dissenting opinion is good. Getting opposing views is almost always beneficial, and for the ones that are more than "album is shit," it can actually help solidify for yourself why you like it so much.

@tresm87: By the Way did prove that they can succeed without having every song upbeat and/or funky, but they shouldn't force it when the mood isn't there.

I wonder what the reason is behind the drums. Chad Smith has never been the best drummer in the world or anything, but he absolutely has chops and used to do some cool stuff on their older records.
|
| |
i was more referring to the sound of the drums rather than chad's parts, ie the way the drums were recorded lacks punch and space (with the exception of we turn red)
compare that to the great big bonham-esque room sound the drums have on bssm and it's night and day

"imagine if they crafted the whole album with the same formula as dark necessities and goodbye angels
could've been a 4.7 instead of a 3.8"
Nah it'd probably be a hard 3 at best, because even though the two tracks are pretty good the album would be 13 songs of the same thing.

Meh, I missed out on these guys when they came to P.R. a few years ago. Heard it was killer too, but fuckin' 80-something bucks for a show is ridiculous.

@aquiroga79: Also, why does everyone think when I critique someone's work that it means that I think I can do it better? I don't care for the guy's sound and I think there are other producers who know how to bring more interesting things to their recordings than he does. Simple as that.

Man, I could probably give a little shit about new RHCP in 2016, honestly.
I'll check this out. I'll always have a soft spot for the peppers, they're the reason I got into music way back when.

@DinosaurJones @Conmaniac: Around the World was the first real "rock" song I ever heard and I remember it blew my mind. Pretty much got raised on the Peppers. And Ozzy. Not a bad way to grow up.
