Kinda crazy that one of the greatest rock songs of all time was inspired by Rosanna Arquette.

That's just a joke between her and the band, it's not the actual origin.

"My favorite Toto's solo is still Hold the Line's"

Can't pick one, I'll name three off the top of my head: Caught in the Balance, White Sister (the one in the final minute or so), Wings of Time (off Live in Poland, the one that goes on for like three minutes)

What do you mean it's just a joke?

Best Toto video is Hold the Line. The look on the dude playing piano in the beginning is priceless.

For all I know the name of the song could be inspired by her because she was often with the band and the joke was kept by both parts, but I believe Paich said he was inspired by girls in general.

... so yeah you could say it was inspired by her haha

Nothing compares to Andy McKee's cover from a couple of years ago.

Eh I'm not a fan of instrumental covers. If you're gonna do the song imho you do the lyrics as well.

Honestly if I want to hear a new take on Africa then I'll just listen to a live take. So it has the atmosphere of the original but spiced up with improvs and crowd interactions.

Like this one for example, sweet jazzy flavor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzegyGxFxIQ
