I thought The Mountain was pretty cool. This is alright, I guess. It ticks all the boxes necessary for a good prog release, but I just can't get into the band's overall sound. Every second that passes leaves me feeling more and more jaded.

Disagree, this album stands up to The Mountain, but is overall a very different album

Listening now. 2nd half of 1985 was insane and the chorus in Lapse just made me so unbelievably happy

Yeah, it's not the Mountain, big whoop. Still outstanding. Every track has a wonderful conclusion and I'm sure repeated listens will only make this grow on me. I'm not even disappointed, I'm glad this is its own thing as opposed to being a Mountain Part 2. Feelin a strong 4 right now and could probably rise. Overall, very satisfying. I will say that it took a while for the longer tracks to really kick in, but once they got there, it all worked out well.

I understand why you can dislike this but Haken has always been cheesy progressive wankery to me, and this is nothing different, although it's more retro. I love 1985 actually because of its retro aspects, the solo is amazing

I think this is definitely cheesier, but the song writing was so much better on The Mountain. So the cheese was well placed and so much fun.

I really, really like Mountain, but this is way a way better album than that.. I'm suprised that people here think otherwise

I'm surprised anyone thinks this is better than The Mountain.

As a side note, the album art sucks. Trendy as can be.

This is at least a 4. It's missing some of the beautiful atmosphere of The Mountain, but this is a certainly a more immediate and less meandering album. These guys can do no wrong.

I struggle to see how anyone could say that this album has bad production. The production's great.

Endless knot is an amazing song, although i'm not a huge fan of initiate. And I'm glad someone else noticed that he sounds a little like Ian Kenny in 1985!
