sounds so much weaker without Garrison

Garrison was amazing, they'll probably never find a vocalist that fits them as well as Garrison did

Augment and Impulse are so damn good, and then they spiraled downward

augment for me was impulse with tighter vocals, production, and all the boring draggy parts of impulse removed. this album reversed all of that, especially the production

also i definitely agree jt is not a great fit but i think the v stuffy production hurts him too

Augment was exactly as the title implied: an augment of their sound. That album is metalcore perfection imo, every single thing about it is done spectacularly well. Then Garrison and Alan leave, and it seems as though they just forgot how to write good music. JT is a poor replacement, even Ian on the Moments of Clarity EP was at least decent

I thought JT Cavey was great in Texas in July. I'm yet to be convinced this is the right sounding band for him though. As for Ian, he was definitely the worst vocalist of the three.

JT was good in Texas In July for sure, which is part of why I'm so disappointed by his performance on this. I thought Ian did a fine job for an EP, I probably couldn't handle him for a full album tho haha

Listened to this after a few months and I like it a lot more. The decrease in chugging is a huge plus for me. When they do partake in it, they have some kind of guitar or vocal melody with it to make it more tolerable. So many bands in this scene just let the open palm mute chugging and screams carry whole sections and it just doesn't work. You need to have an especially technical/memorable rhythm to make that work, and most of it is just recycled.
I do agree that the vocals are a bit weak, but there are some parts that I really enjoy. Instrumentation is what makes this band though. Guitar riffs/solo's are incredible.
