Brand New aren't emo dude

Like Evan Weise writes super OK tunes that work in small doses of like 3 or 4 songs, but his albums are like 15 songs and it's like dude we get it

I saw him live and for the first 4 songs I was like hey maybe I was wrong, this is great, then by the 10th song I was like dude enough bring out Mineral plz

Yeah I kinda touched on that in my review. Both of his previous albums had a lot of potential with specific songs but as a whole they didn't work so well. I would argue that this album is a step forward in that sense. Plus its only 11-12 songs so it doesn't drag too much

And I've seen him live as well (he opened for Brand New lol) and I thought he was great but his set was so long and it got a bit samey after awhile

haven't heard his other stuff so don't have anything to compare it to. this feels like a grower though

His music is so fucking vanilla, it just sounds like watered down 90s emo. He doesn't even bring the twinkly riffs at least, and I swear his vocal melodies are the same in every song

It's not bad, but it's frustrating

hm idk they are pretty different from each other. like doesn't one of them restrain from having any choruses? and yeah I havent solidified my opinions on the other two albums but I think this one is a step above both

the lyrics are pretty great on here, but yeah does feel like it's lacking that emotional punch at times

I haven't delved into the lyrics that much haha. but that first track man:

My friends from where I'm from are all a wreck
Hangin' high up on a horse
Hangin' heavy from their old routines
They wake up still uninspired with no regrets
Hungover and divorced, they torch their 20s like it's kerosene

You know those lyrics are all right

But then in the second track, I don't know, not that the lyrics were bad, they just didn't fit

"I rip it hardcore like porno flick bitches. I roll with groups of ghetto bastards with biscuits"

Those lyrics just don't really fit the music, but that's just me
