Nup, i got into Anthrax when i heard Poison My Eyes on the last action hero soundtrack and rushed out and purchased Sound of White Noise.
A mature, strong album, which lost their cheese factor, and so i am now forever scarred, as for me that was their best era, and whilst 'spreading the disease' is really great, I have never really been able to get into any Anthrax with Bello on vocals, it just sounds cheesy metal, and obvious to me why they were never as big as the other 'three' thrash bands, who had a much more serious less cheesy take on metal music, not comic book characters etc. Each to their own of course.

There's a few cool riffs here and there, but I've really no desire to listen to this over their earlier material.

Joey and the 'fun' or even cheesy approach was what made Anthrax though. Not quite sure, but I think vocalist change was what diminished their popularity in the early 90's.

Besides I think StD is the only somewhat cheesy Joey's album, but that's also my fave lol.

this is a great review and actually makes me want to listen to this. does it even come close to recreating the vibe of Spreading the Disease or Among the Living?

I like Persistence of Time, but not as much as their mid-80s output.

No. There's none of the 'classic album' vibe on this. It's a cross between PoT and their last album. PoT is my favorite thrash album of all time, so I was okay with this album's sound.

This and Worship Music are the best big 4 releasex in 2010s imo, definitely worth checking.

I like Dark Roots of Earth better than Worship Music. I also like the new Megadeth more than Worship Music. Definitely Top 5 though. Ha ha.

This is an amazing classic, so good from start to finish. One of the few albums that instantly catches you but reveals alot more depth on frequent listens. Not sure how it is rated in the 3's here but to me it is one of the best metal albums to come out in at least a dozen years.
