Not a big fan of their post-if_then_else era but there are a few gems on those albums, for sure. My holy trinity of the band is definitely their 1995-98 work.

The band has been consistently so good over the years, no matter the style they play !_! love them

Definitely. It's just a matter of taste which era one prefers. I also consider Rene Rutten quite an underrated guitarist. He's such a good songwriter and knows how to create atmospheric music.

Yeah, definitely! He's always been striving for creativity, he's definitely under-appreciated everywhere >:]

I'm gonna listen carefully to your holy trinity then, manosg ;) I expect a certain portion of my ratings to be eventually changed on the way.

Sweet. I'm very curious seeing which side of the band's sound you'll prefer, Jethro.

I just listened to this and I have to admit it was a pretty great album, I might even bump this at some point.

Very good review! Two factual errors, though:
1. "Almost a Dance" is not the only album not represented here, "The West Pole" is another.
2. They did play the very old songs you mentioned not so long ago, as part of their original line-up tour between "The West Pole" and "Disclosure".

Thanks for the corrections, Glubluk. Somehow I didn't notice the fact that no song from "The West Pole" is included on here. I'll update the review asap. Regarding the second point, let's agree that a little bit of poetic licence is allowed ;)
Out of curiosity, is there any video footage from the concerts with the original line-up?

I wouldnt interpret too much into "Afterwords". It was never meant to be a proper release. It was originally a bonus vinyl for the limited edition of "Disclosure" which featured nothing but reworked songs from that album. Afterwords is exactly that with some added obscurities.
If they decide to record another album, I am sure it will be ace.

@manosg: No, the show hasn't been recorded officially. There are fan recordings though and an edited video of "Paper waves" appeared online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4k3deDGgAlw

No problem manosg, without poetic licence there's no good prose;)
As for footage of the original line-up reunion shows, here's "The Mirror Waters": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1g26LI6OCo
They did play a song from "The West Pole" at Doornroosje ("All You Are") but chose not to include it on the album for some reason. Initially I though this was because of time constraints, but I have the CDs now, and I see it could fit easily, so maybe the performance itself was not up to standard according to the band? In any case, it's a shame as I really love "TWP".
As for "Afterwords", I like the album for what it is and it's very different from anything they did before.
If I were to point out one highlight of "TG25" that would be "King for a Day", especially Marike's stunning solo spot in the middle of the song. Next are "Travel" and the understated presence of Silje throughout. I am not floored by Anneke's performance of pre-How to Measure tracks, but still she sings them better than in the past live performances I know.
Bottomline: One of the best live albums ever.

Thanks for the clip Glubluk! Bart is really feeling the song with all the headbanging haha.
Marike's performance on "King for a Day" is immense and definitely one of the highlights of the album. "Travel" is brilliant as well. I also love Anneke's voice on the earlier material and especially "In Motion I" which is probably my favorite TG song. Silje is really good too but I have to admit I'm not her biggest fan even though I enjoy her live performance more than her studio.
