Apart from this one their later material still had some really enjoyable tracks to offer, but the new track lacks any emotion and feeling. The fact it only consists of warmed up parts already used on earlier records clearly shows their creativity has reached an all time low. Due to that, Distance Over Time is running the risk of ending up even more desolate than this one. Not feeling anything when listening to a new track might be the worst thing that could happen and that’s exactly my issue with Untethered Angel.

s/t is definitely overhated, I'm far from a DT fan and yet I can enjoy that one with more ease than a lot of their other stuff. The Bigger Picture for instance, I like that one.
ftr the only DT songs that I can say I really ~love a lot~ are basically Surrounded and Take the Time. Oh and a soft spot for Space-Dye Vest

I would say their last truly great album was ADTOE (their best since train of thought if you ask me). That had a really great balance and mix of melody and progressive craziness while still keeping a dark edge (to most things).
The self titled was good but is slightly too saccharine in parts and it missed some key DT ingredients for me (crazy instrumental sections/'wankery' for a detractor) and also offered nothing much new.
Astonishing was also good IMO, but deeply flawed. It's got some of their most inspired music in years, but they spread themselves too thin and the story is akin to a good first draft at best. I can live with the cheese in the context of this, but it was all a bit underdeveloped.
New song also doesn't really offer anything new, but I do enjoy it much more then most of the last 2 albums and the instrumental/solo section puts a smile on my face.

New song is up on Spotify (Fall into the Light). Getting a Systematic Chaos meets self-titled vibe, specifically Constant Motion, The Bigger Picture and Enigma Machine.
I'm honestly feeling slightly optimistic about the new album...
