Calling anything here intricate is ridiculous given that so much of it sounds like bad soft rock.

I was speaking of the new album as a whole dude...

First three as well as Metropolis Pt. II are great so no.

I'm a fanboy so I think most records after that didn't suck, but I can see why you would think it's horrendous

The only one that truly sucks is this one, and Octavarium doesn't do much for me either. But apart from these two there's something to enjoy on every single record.

Good one Casavir, fucking good one. Teach me how to be so quick and witty. Fucking jackass.

And funeral doom rules. Not wanky garbage that actually has depth and substance.

I enjoy the new track. The instrumental is quite good and James is totally inoffensive due to the production.

I dislike the new track. The instrumental is boring and James sounds even worse due to the production. [2]

I think it's ok but far from innovative or something like that. They just picked some parts from old albums and patched them together in a desperate attempt to sound progressive and inventive again. I will probably end up spinning the new album several times to never return to it again.
And I'm still pretty annoyed that production will suck, again...

Just out of curiosity: What exactly sucks to you about the production?

I don't hate the new song, but I don't like it. Lifeless performances, "let's record another album" routine.

It's like a more boring version of The Enemy Inside. That's what this record probably will be like, a watered-down version of the self-titled

It's compressed af, that's my main issue. I know YouTube isn't exactly the benchmark when it comes to quality of uploads but you can definitely tell the end product won't be good. Their last efforts unfortunately only confirm this feeling. The s/t is almost unlistenable on good headphones, The Astonishing is slightly better but far from good as well.

Vocals and keyboard sound so muffled, the only things that pop up are the slog of heavy riffs and the drumming. Speaking of which, on first listen Mangini seemed really boring in this song.
I did dig Petrucci's more melodious bits though.

It's for the better that the vocals are muffled tbh
