Midnight tricked me into thinking Coldplay was going to do something good.

Midnight was decent too but they're just too inconstant now.
If this isn't the last one they should at least go on hiatus, make some solo albums and come back with something that isn't a rush job.

They have a few individually nice enough tunes and Chris Martin does have a good ear for a melody...I'm struggling to say anything more than that

Like ed says in the review, a U2 ripoff band would be an improvement at this point

What a shame to hear this, but I'm not surprised. One I heard Adventure as the lead single, I knew the Coldplay we all came to love is completely dead. They've stunk since Mylo Xyloto, and I have a hard time believing this album could be as awful as that one, but so far the reaction says otherwise. Ghost Stories had bright spots but was for the most part more crap. I did like Midnight, Magic, and especially Another's Arms (despite the horrid lyrics)... that's it. I will give this a fair listen but I am not optimistic.

I thought everyone hated X&Y though.

X and Y was not that great, but tbh it's waaaaaaay better than this. Songs like "Square one" or "White Shadows" seem to be completely out of their reach now.

Great review, haven't had the chance to listen but once it comes on Spotify, I will.

Ed if this is truly the last Coldplay album (which it won't be), do you have any confidence that the potential solo work from Chris Martin would be any better? I'd rather they stay as a full band so they at least the potential of doing another Viva La Vida or AROBTTH

Didn't like Adventure of a Lifetime at first, gotta admit

Cautious about the direction they're going with this, currently downloading it. Bracing for disappointment.

Hymn for the Weekend is the best song here. Album isn't as bad as I expected, but still weak when put against the rest of their discography.

Excellent review. Pos'd.
Coldplay's downfall seems without an ending.
Time to break up the band cause they have nothing to offer anymore.

Giving this a listen soon. It will probably be literally "a" listen since I doubt I'll care to hear it again.

thx for the (mostly) positive feedback guys. I'm amazed that you like "hymn for the weekend" sowing. That's the worst offender for me.

OP, I don't agree with what you say for the most part, but you say it well. Pos'd
