I think they're becoming more relatable but then I'm nearly the same age as the band lol
Slipped or Sorrow or Lemonworld or Humiliation connect deeper than Abel or City Middle or the like for me. Matt seems truer to me now, and I love the delivery on the later albums, I like to believe he really does write things like 'just got off 12 hour night flight' and 'terrible head cold' to inform his styles but I guess he was joking around in the interview I read about the recording of High Violet saying that.
They do need to mix it up a bit next though. All I'll say is live they do transform a lot of the new songs into rockers, I think it was Humiliation they did a near metal version of when I saw them

T/t is great too. It's a Game or Careless are the most National sounding songs on here

Not gonna lie I haven't listened to this in full since the week or two after it came out. Still jam the t/t, Paul is Alive, and I'm the Man To Be every now and then though.

Should 5 this. It's not perfect at all, but it's becoming more and more of a classic to me

Such a turkey sadly, take Matt’s best three ideas off this and work them into the last National album and that coulda been a 5
Bit of a waste of time for all concerned. It’s ok.

Did the clip on bleached long hairpiece come with them or is that sold separately?

If that walked in and said “Morning, I’m starting here today” there would be a collective “Fuck Sake”

I'm glad Matt got this out of his system tbh... I doubt much of what he put into this would have made it into a National record but I bet it helped him to do a more lightweight thing as a breather.
