"The summary sums up my exact thoughts on this record. Nicely done."

Muchos gracias.

"real good album but everything you said is on point. the finer things is just better but this is a definite good time"

Yep. I'm a little worried about their future direction though. They've followed a similar path to All Time Low on their 1st 2 records.

It gets better with each listen (especially out loud), but probably not enough better to justify the patience.

I'm liking it so far, but they are very by the books with the pop punk genre. Like it's cool and sounds good, but it also sounds like it's been done a hundred times before. I never tried the finer things though, is it a lot like this?

That's the thing snowstorm... This is really predictable. And while 'The Finer Things' isn't what you'd call innovative, it's not as predictable, much catchier & more memorable. You should at least rate it half a point better.

yea pretty much, the finer things was just catchy and memorable across the board with a bit more variety. this is just a bit too sugary and doesn't really reach the same heights

There was also a satisfying grit to 'The Finer Things' which didn't at all effect how catchy the tunes were.

I'm also starting to realize that this is the first album I've heard where the production is too clean for my tastes; that's very hard to do, as I typically like clean production in pop punk...I don't know what they did to make it sound the way it does

I know what you mean Snowstorm. I think it also gets back to the songs themselves though. Slick production is fine if the hooky choruses are there. Unsure they are sufficiently here.

Excited to listen to this because the chorus of the one song I checked out sounded like Daughtry. Should be enjoyably terrible.

I've never understood the hype for this band, even the finer things was pretty generic imo. that being said, enjoyed the review davey! I'm going to the wonder years/motion city soundtrack concert on oct 30th so i'll actually be seeing state champs then, so maybe they'll be able to change my mind.

im not arguing that it wasn't generic, i mean it's pop punk after all and originality is never really something I look for too hard in the genre. it was just good, catchy, well written tunes to me and that's enough

That triple threat gig would be awesome Atari. SC are the only band on that bill that I haven't seen live, so I can't predict if they'll win you over or not. As I said earlier - & gameofmetal also stated - 'The Finer Things' wasn't in any way innovative, but it did what it set out to do so well.
