The synths on this album are total shit tbh

"n emo album hasn't wowed me for a good few years now. I thought this would be it. It wasn't"
If you haven't, go back to the 90's/ early 00's. I honestly can't think of more albums except A Bunny's Caravan and Arrows' full length (and Suffocate For Fuck Sake if you count screamo) that have wowed me as much as so many emo albums from that era have.
As much as you keep hearing about the revival, I cannot agree. This is more like an hommage imo, but the sound and pathos just fail to be replicated.

This is probably less interesting than their last album but way way more enjoyable, also getting rid of the whiny vocalist helps this band a lot at making their pretentiousness less obvious. pretty good album. Sure everything on this album has been done before BUT due to the number and variety of influences this feels pretty original and fresh. very solid emo bullshit.

i think the term 'emo revival' really damages the reception of albums like this because people come in expecting the same sound that was present in the late 90's/early 00's and then are disappointed that it's actually quite different.

I'm surprised people still legitimately use the word "pretentious" when describing music

yeah after that train wreck you made in the cyberbully mom club thread you'd think people would've learned the hard way vicariously

Is there any particular reason your bringing up really old shit that happened forever ago Johnny?

when you say something like "I'm still surprised people ___" when you had a very similar mindset not too long ago, it makes you look a bit hypocritical

like, I won't chastise someone who thinks good noise music is simple to make, when I only recently (maybe 2 years ago) actually researched some of the processes different musicians use.
(also: my initial comment^^ was meant to be more of a playful jab, but ..)

He honestly doesn't have a point. Like yeah, I said some really stupid shit over a year ago but acting like that opinion hasn't changed in anyway and then going out of your way to tell them that their very old, stupid, outdated opinion they don't even have anymore is silly. I could've said "oh yeah I used to think using pretentiousness as an insult against music is bad" but that would be pointless.

also sorry for getting so defensive, it just kinda irks me to be reminded how stupid I was when I was first here out of the blue y'know?

"but acting like that opinion hasn't changed in anyway"
never said that. i'm sure that old opinion of yours is no longer there, and good on you I guess, but sneering at someone who thinks a certain way that you also used to think is silly.
edit: just read your last comment. ya sry man, wasn't really trying to ruffle feathers at first

meh, you're right.
edit: it's cool, it's just that this was the second time you've done this so I really couldn't tell if you were trying to be malicious or not.

I do think that this album does a good job capturing the early 2000s emo/pop sound that dominated during that time. but at the same time trying to capture that particular sound results in some pretty shitty results. the album is just a very large mixed back with it's enjoyable moments overpowering the shittier aspects.
