This is not what risk-taking sounds like. This is catchy prog by the numbers, a proven formula. I think it's well composed, but it's so sterile and disconnected.

yea this is definitely not by the numbers at all, have you even heard A Night On the Town?

Which is a 'copy' of In Cauda Venenum?
I don't know man, I love Casey but this seems just him doing stuff by his book.

How exactly does it sound to you like a copy of In Cauda Venenum?

The only thing that makes the songs even remotely similar are the opening riffs. Even that is a stretch.
@Anthracks I agree for the most part. too many meh tracks and imo only 4 or 5 are above average. half of the tracks seem like color spectrum and migrant b sides. The only tracks that even hold a candle to previous acts are "Rebirth", "The Old Haunt", "A Night on The Town", "The Squeaky Wheel", and "Ouroboros" imo

It actually follows a really similar structure till the bridge but whatever.
I mean yeah, the main 'riff' it's clearly a recall to it - as it is the whole first half, it would be more ignorant to not acknowledge that mr. Crescenzo is actually playing more on nostalgia factor than anything else on this lp.

You mean intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus structure? yeah that's like 80 percent of songs ever lol. The lyrics don't recall In Cauda in any way, and the song sounds entirely different all the way through.

The opening riffs are similar to an extent as is the one in City Escape. I see your point there but it is in no way a copy of Cauda

reminds me of a movie score rather than an usual album

This takes me away, been waiting years for this. Casey is beyond human.

its not nostalgia the acts have a theme both lyrically and musically. its kinda the point..... and probably why he took 6 years in between this and act 3 and explored other types of music in between.

Guys, I want to love this band so much, but it's not clicking for some reason. Why....

I really like this and thinking about bumping it to 4.5, although it is somehow a different brand of music than the other acts. It takes a little more time to fully appreciate, and there aren't really super-memorable motifs like there are in previous albums. But that doesn't make it bad at all, just different.

"reminds me of a movie score rather than an usual album"
agreed, thought it was a weakness at first but honestly this is growing on me like herpes recently

also @ "This is catchy prog by the numbers, a proven formula"
If this is by-the-numbers, then how come there aren't 20 other bands that sound like this? Because no one really sounds like casey or TDH. Not that he has a super revolutionary / really different sound or anything, but it's definitely distinct enough to stand out from the crowd.

^exactly, though this album still doesn't cut it for me. Right up to par with Migrant but that's about it. Half of these tracks sound like color spectrum outtakes and migrant b-sides. Maybe 5 or 6 above average tracks here whereas Acts II and III are consistently great throughout imo

Don't get a Migrant vibe from this tbh it definitely runs a little too close to Violet tho
