I think most of the hate for BMTH is because of their lyrics and the scene their fanbase was a part of back in the CYB/Suicide Season days. The anti-metalcore sentiment from metal elitists didn't help things of course.

Well yeah, because their lyrics didn't really improve, and they alienated a large portion of their old fanbase by abandoning the genre that made them popular to begin with, and moved towards the mainstream, which is only gonna piss off elitists more (as well as their old fans obviously).
