Yeah the first song i heard from this opens with the lines "I WAS A GOOD MAN ONCE I WAS A GOOD MAN ONCE"

They're so out of ideas it's kinda funny

jesus, are they still doing that fucking story that i dont give a shit about? it was cool on Travels but after that it wore off hard.

On empty days it was like "okay cool a different characters perspective kind of a novelty thing but the acoustic tracks kinda broke it up, and like white oak doors made it a bit easier to forgive. But by letters home it completely wore off

im so sick of this stupid concept tho that nowadays when i listen to defeater is pretty much just lost ground since its the only one that tries to stray from that concept a little bit

I'll always return to Travels, Empty Days, and Lost Ground. The rest didn't even have to be written.

It is my least favorite album of D. and I agree that it is repetetive and tired. On the other hand, as a separate work - it still defends itself.

I think they may easily evolve and stick to their concept - just explore the universe they created while not sticking with the same people (it worked great on Lost Ground). That would also allow them to introduce some new influences into the music (e.g. characters coming from south would allow for experimenting with blues etc.).

All in all - I like them for other LPs and Lost Ground EP. Cowerdice is a masterpiece.

Somehow, being one of the few people who enjoy this makes me feel warm inside.

This just came on while shuffle playing my library. Haven't listened to it in quite a while and man, it still hits. The vocal production and mix is perfect. The only thing that's better are the drums. Goddamn. So.fucking.good. If you don't think December 1943 is one of the best hardcore songs ever, I don't even care.
